Description
Licensed Veterinary TechnicianSign-On Bonus: Up to $5,000 for qualified candidates
We are a long-standing companion animal practice with deep roots in the community and clients who have trusted us for generations. Many of our clients grew up bringing their family pets here and now bring their own dogs and cats to us as adults. That history matters to our team, and so does the way we show up for each other every day.
Our hospital is growing from a two-doctor practice to a three-doctor practice, and we are looking for an LVT who wants to be part of a stable, collaborative, well-supported team. This is a good fit for someone who wants to use their technical skills, keep learning, and work in a hospital that takes both patient care and quality of life seriously.
Our team has unusually strong retention, with several support team members who have been with Cumberland for many years. That stability is one of the things we are proud of. We work hard, but we also protect lunch breaks, build smart workflows, and make decisions with the understanding that real people are providing the care.
Requirements
- Licensed Veterinary Technician in Maine, or eligible to become licensed
- Veterinary hospital experience required
- Comfortable supporting appointments, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, diagnostics, and client education
- Strong communication skills with clients, doctors, assistants, and CSRs
- Team-focused, adaptable, and dependable
- Interest in continued learning, mentorship, and cross-training
- Comfortable in a collaborative GP setting
- Compassionate patient care and safe animal handling skills
- Surgery and anesthesia experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist doctors during appointments, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures
- Perform venipuncture, sample collection, and in-house laboratory work
- Support technician appointments and client education
- Assist with digital radiology and digital dental radiology
- Monitor anesthesia and support surgical and dental procedures
- Help with patient recovery and hospitalized patient care
- Maintain clean, organized, and efficient treatment areas
- Communicate clearly with clients and the medical team
- Cross-train in appointments, surgery, laboratory, and front desk support as needed
- Help keep patient care moving without bottlenecking the doctor or appointment schedule
What the Role Looks Like
Our technicians are used as true members of the medical team. On an ideal appointment day, we have two technicians or assistants per doctor. On surgery days, we typically have two to three support team members assigned. We also have dedicated lab support, so if a room team needs an ear cytology, lab work, or another diagnostic task completed, that work can be handed off without slowing down the entire appointment flow.
Our doctors are kind, patient teachers, and generous with mentorship. This is a place where you can keep building your skills without feeling like everything is on your shoulders alone.
Our hospital has a large, purpose-built space with strong workflow support, including:
- Ultrasound
- Digital radiography
- Digital dental radiography
- Companion laser
- Full in-house laboratory
- Weekly traveling radiology support for abdominal ultrasounds and echocardiograms
- Spacious treatment areas
- Dedicated break room and staff meeting space
What Makes Cumberland Different
Cumberland Animal Clinic is structured to support both strong patient care and a sustainable workday. We close for appointments from 12-2 each day so team members can take a true lunch break, and we are rarely here late. A kennel attendant also helps with evening cleaning so the medical team can focus on patient care and leave on time.
We stay connected through monthly department meetings, whole-staff meetings every other month, lunch-and-learns, and cross-training across rooms, lab, surgery, and client service. We also make time for lighter team traditions, including monthly Great British Baking Show-style cookoffs, team events, and community involvement through our local farm CSA pickup site.
