he Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSEN) in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Quantum Materials. We seek candidates who will establish and lead internationally recognized, externally funded research programs in the broad area of quantum materials, with a demonstrated emphasis on experimental synthesis/growth and characterization of emergent quantum materials.

This position is part of a university-wide cluster hire in Quantum Sciences and Technology at Texas A&M University, for a total of 5 faculty positions across engineering and science, designed to strengthen a highly interdisciplinary community at the intersection of physics, chemistry, materials science, and electrical engineering. The initiative seeks faculty who will advance fundamental understanding and technological applications of quantum materials through collaborative research spanning synthesis, characterization, theory, computation, and device development. Successful candidates will engage with a broad network of researchers across departments and institutes at Texas A&M, fostering new approaches to quantum phenomena and enabling next-generation quantum technologies.

Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

Experimental synthesis and growth for quantum materials and related systems;
Emergent properties and phenomena of quantum materials;
Low-dimensional and correlated quantum materials, with applications in twistronics, spintronics, and devices;
Defects and solid-state qubits for quantum sensing and other emerging technologies;
Topological phases and quantum geometry, with applications in quantum information science and device applications.
The successful applicant will be required to teach; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; develop an independent, externally funded research program; participate in all aspects of the Department’s activities; and serve the profession. Through effective collaboration across the discipline of engineering, the MSEN department has numerous opportunities for the development of laboratories and sponsorship of research activities. MSEN is a relatively new and growing department, currently with 22 full time and 6 joint tenured/tenure-track faculty. The student enrollment has continuously grown since the establishment of the department, and currently we have about 300 undergraduate students (sophomore, junior, and seniors), and about 200 graduate students. MSEN is an integral part of the TAMU College of Engineering, with excellent interaction with faculty in other engineering programs to support large-scale college initiatives and access to graduate students to assist in research activities. Requirements

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in materials science and engineering or a closely related engineering degree.
