- Technology Commercialization Associate
Description
The associate will be required to use strong analytical skills to aid in the evaluation and management of university technologies. The UWMRF team will train the associate on the many facets of intellectual property management including evaluation of intellectual property, market research and commercialization assessment, execution of agreements, patenting, licensing of technology, and start-up companies.
The associate will use various research tools (online, AI, and related) to gather information related to inventions, markets, and patentability. The associate will also aid in the preparation of marketing materials, patenting materials, marketing outreach, and preparation of agreements. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, excellent writing and research skills, strong analytical abilities, and must be able to work in a self-directed and independent fashion.
Duties include:
- Meeting inventors and conducting prior art searches on new invention disclosures
- Completing projects that include conducting research on external companies and company contacts
- Learn to use Minuet software for documenting all aspects of a technology assessment, marketing, patenting, and licensing
- Providing administrative aid for various projects related to marketing, which includes minutes of meetings, transcribing notes, and composing memos and agreements
- Aid in management of the patent portfolio by supporting patent drafting activities with outside counsel, coordinating responses to offices actions, and gathering required technical information from inventors
- Prepare documents such as information disclosure statements, assignments, and declarations for filed patents
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in science (Life Science, Physical Science, or Engineering preferred) or a non-science bachelor’s degree with related industry experience.
- Advanced degree, industry experience, patent, or startup experience will be favored.
