JOB TITLE: SPECIAL SERVICES COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY: The Coordinator is part of the Special Services administration team who assists in the oversight of special education programs, Section 504 and Home Hospital services. This position provides technical and supportive assistance to principals, teachers, classified staff, parents, and the community. Monitoring compliance according to federal and state regulations, and district procedures is an integral part of this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership
- 5 or more years of special education teaching experience or educational specialist experience
- Principal or Program Administrator credential
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides district-level leadership to partner with building-level teams to ensure referrals, evaluations, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) are developed and consistently provided across a continuum of services
- Leads teams through a planned approach of problem solving and guide teams in a manner that is consistent with the overall department and district vision
- Facilitates teams in decision-making using the best practices to improve student behavior and classroom engagement
- Provides professional development to staff on instructional and behavioral systems and interventions as well as individual feedback and coaching
- Provides professional development to staff on Direct Instruction and progress monitoring to inform instruction as well as individual feedback and coaching
- Monitors and supports the delivery of transition services for postsecondary planning
- Remains current with laws, policies, and practices aligned to Federal and State IDEA requirements
- Partners with Non-Public Agencies and community service providers to support students and families
- Assists with planning, scheduling, and implementing Extended School Year services.
- Prepares, analyzes and communicates federal, state, district data reports to all stakeholders
- Supervises and evaluates assigned certificated support staff and/or classified staff
- Accepts other responsibilities as necessary to fulfill the duties in special services
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of special education compliance and reporting
- Knowledge of the technical and compliant components of a special education evaluation, IEP and Transition Plan
- Knowledge of program-specific curriculum across grade levels and programs for the purpose of training and development of program curricula alignment
- Knowledge of classroom and specially designed instruction, and expertise in accommodation and modifications designed to improve student progress on IEP goals
- Knowledge to analyze and interpret student instructional and behavioral data
- Knowledge of discipline procedures for students with disabilities
- Ability to promote positive interactions and communications with all stakeholders through an equity lens
- Ability to multi-task and balance multiple demands and projects within specific timelines
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and families
- Ability to meet multiple reporting deadlines
- Knowledge of outside community resources and agency supports available to assist IEP teams and support our students and families
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Daily work is generally performed in an indoor school setting. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with students, staff, and parents. Must be able to drive one’s own car to various schools and district buildings.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Executive Director of Special Services. Collaborates with other district staff. Regularly interacts with parents and community members.
