The Appleton Area School District has a position available for a 1.0 FTE Principal of 4 Year Old Kindergarten at Appleton Community 4K beginning on 7/1/2026.

Classification/Contract Days: Administrator / 260 days, year-round position
FLSA Status: Exempt

Essential Function: The Director of 4 Year Old Kindergarten/Appleton Community 4K Administrator is responsible for
leadership and administration of Appleton Community 4K. This includes implementation and monitoring of the
curriculum, management of related data assessment systems, coordination and maintenance of community
partnerships, and program evaluation and development.

Responsibilities, Tasks & Duties:
Quality Assessment, Curriculum, and Instruction:
Provides vision for development, implementation, and refinement of high-quality, culturally responsive
standards, curriculum, and assessments.
Develops procedures/methods for analysis of assessment.
Assists teaching staff in coordinating new assessment components accompanying new curriculum and
instructional materials adoptions.
Reports student performance results to broader school community.
Coordinates program evaluations.
Serves as resource person.
Capacity Building:
Visits schools, classrooms, facilitates staff, and departmental meetings to support high-quality instructional
programs
Facilitates sharing of innovative ideas and expertise
Works with teachers on data collection and analysis, instructional planning, techniques and problem solving, as
well as cultural competency
Identifies, develops, and coordinates staff development opportunities as it relates to assessment analysis,
curricular needs, and instructional best practices
Actively develops, facilitates, and engages with district continuous school improvement efforts/activities.
Personnel Administration:
Participates in selection of professional staff.
Provides for new teacher orientation.
Evaluates professional staff in cooperation with other supervisors.
Evaluates support staff including paraprofessionals and secretaries.
Holds staff meetings as needed.
Coordinates and supervises task force groups and/or leadership teams.
Business Management:
Supervises all record keeping and procedural functions.
Prepares and administers Appleton Community 4K and related budgets.
Manages Appleton Community 4K Partner Agreements, variances, and payment of quarterly allocations.
Prepares state and local reports.
Determines Appleton Community 4K needs.
Facilities Management:
Monitors Appleton Community 4K facilities regularly regarding safety and security and reports needs to
responsible agent.
Monitors Appleton Community 4K partner locations for license, insurance, and state quality rating requirements.
Assists in planning new facilities.
Cooperates with city inspectors and safety officers.
Develops and maintains office procedures.
Schedules usage of facilities and equipment.
Student Personnel:
Coordinates Appleton Community 4K enrollment process.
Directs activities related to pupil personnel including record keeping, enrollment, attendance, and discipline.
Organizes pupils with special needs in coordination with the Associate Director of Pupil Services.
Assists in organizing family engagement activities.
Community Relations/Communication:
Assumes responsibility for developing and coordinating good public relations.
Writes monthly newsletters and other public relations documents.
Confers with parents; provides for parent orientation.
Maintains active interest in community activities.
Other:
Collaborates with Fox Valley Technical College to deliver high quality learning environments for the children in
the Appleton Even Start Family Literacy program.
Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
The ability to demonstrate strong instructional orientation, including an emphasis on instructional time,
current strategies/research and their application to change if needed.
Knowledge and experience with early childhood development and learning.
Knowledge of effective professional development and coaching with adults.
Demonstration of a collaborative style: supportive, approachable, and responsive to the professional
educators’ and community partners’ skills and expertise; provide for individual creativity.
Experience in providing internal visibility to students and staff and external school visibility to students,
parents, and the school community.
The ability to advocate for school and community needs, while respecting the overall needs of the District.
Experience with site-based budget management.
Prior experience as a team leader, elementary principal, or in a similar leadership role is highly desired.
Prior experiences and in-depth knowledge of Special Education.
Experience with continuous school improvement and analysis of student assessment.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Commitment and ability to act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.

Working Conditions/Environment:
Work is performed in the school setting in multiple buildings. The setting requires a collaborative environment involving
staff, students, student families, and community members. The administrator may encounter students who express
inappropriate behavior and/or sick and/or injured students or staff.
Physical Requirement:
The position requires the administrator to:
1. Sit, walk, climb stairs, and drive throughout the day
2. Use general hearing, speaking, and visual skills.
3. Use of cognitive reasoning to interpret report, compare, edit, organize and evaluate.
