Description

The Jiang Laboratory, led by Dr. Jing Jiang (https://jingjiang.lab.uiowa.edu/), at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our growing research team. This is a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Our research aims to uncover the causal brain circuits underlying emotion, cognition, and psychiatric disorders and translate these discoveries into personalized neuromodulation therapies. We leverage a unique combination of invasive and noninvasive brain stimulation techniques, advanced neuroimaging, intracranial electrophysiology, computational modeling, and network neuroscience to study the human brain.

Position description

The successful candidate will contribute to NIH-funded and collaborative projects investigating human brain circuits relevant to psychiatric disorders. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work with cutting-edge multimodal concurrent brain stimulation-recording datasets, including intracranial electrical stimulation (iES)-intracranial EEG (iEEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation and functional MRI (TMS-fMRI), and TMS-iEEG datasets from healthy, neuropsychiatric, and neurosurgical populations. 

Responsibilities include:

• Analyzing multimodal neuroimaging and electrophysiological datasets
• Developing and implementing computational approaches for brain circuit analyses
• Leading scientific manuscripts and conference presentations
• Contributing to grant applications and future research directions of the laboratory

Training & Environment

A primary goal of postdoctoral training in the Jiang Lab is to prepare fellows for successful independent research careers. Postdoctoral fellows will work closely with Dr. Jiang to develop an individualized career development plan and receive mentorship in scientific publishing, grant writing, leadership, mentoring, and career development. The laboratory is committed to fostering the scientific, professional, and leadership skills necessary for a successful career in neuroscience, medicine, or related fields. Requirements

Required Qualifications

• PhD and/or MD degree in neuroscience, engineering, psychology, or a related field
• Experience with electrophysiological and/or neuroimaging data analyses, e.g., in iEEG, fMRI, and/or brain networks
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB
• A strong record of peer-reviewed scientific publications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment
