Math Instructional Coach / Consultant
Contract | NYC & Greater New York | $500–$750 per day

Agiri Learning Consultants® is seeking an exceptional Math Instructional Coach to support high school mathematics teachers and instructional leaders across NYC-area public schools during the 2026–27 school year.

We are looking for a coach with deep mathematical knowledge and strong adult-learning expertise who can help teachers address students’ prerequisite skill and conceptual gaps while maintaining access to rigorous, grade-level mathematics.

The ideal candidate can make complex mathematical ideas accessible without reducing cognitive demand. They can diagnose student thinking, represent mathematics in multiple ways, help teachers select purposeful scaffolds, and strengthen instruction through coaching, modeling, observation, feedback, and professional learning.

What You’ll Do

• Coach grades 9–12 mathematics teachers and instructional leaders, particularly in Algebra and Geometry.
• Help teachers identify the prerequisite knowledge students need to successfully engage with grade-level mathematics.
• Support teachers in addressing learning gaps without lowering grade-level expectations or intellectual rigor.
• Model mathematical concepts using visual, symbolic, graphical, numerical, verbal, and contextual representations.
• Support implementation of Illustrative Mathematics and other conceptually oriented mathematics curricula.
• Analyze student work and student thinking to identify misconceptions and determine instructional next steps.
• Strengthen teacher practice in mathematical explanations, questioning, discourse, task design, representations, and formative assessment.
• Lead coaching cycles that may include co-planning, modeling, classroom observation, feedback, and reflection.
• Design and facilitate engaging, intellectually rigorous professional learning.
• Develop and adapt lessons, exemplars, assessments, and instructional resources.
• Document coaching goals, progress, and impact clearly and professionally.

Time Commitment & Compensation
This is an independent contractor position. Assignments are scheduled based on school partnerships, client needs, coach expertise, and availability.

Selected coaches can expect an initial assignment of 25-50 coaching days during the school year, with opportunities for additional assignments based on school contracts, performance, availability, and organizational needs.

Compensation is $500–$750 per day, based on experience, demonstrated expertise, and scope of work.

Finalists will participate in a paid pilot coaching engagement designed to assess mathematical thinking, use of multiple representations, diagnosis of student misconceptions and prerequisite gaps, instructional decision-making, and adult coaching skills.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate:

• Deep conceptual and procedural knowledge of secondary mathematics.
• Strong knowledge of Algebra and Geometry, including the ability to explain concepts and procedures through multiple representations and solution approaches.
• At least 3 years of experience coaching, developing, supervising, or providing instructional leadership to adult educators.
• At least 4 years of successful mathematics teaching experience in urban public-school settings.
• Demonstrated familiarity with New York State Algebra I and/or Geometry Regents examinations, including the standards, question types, and mathematical reasoning students are expected to demonstrate.
• Experience diagnosing student misconceptions and prerequisite knowledge gaps.
• The ability to help teachers build appropriate access points and scaffolds while maintaining grade-level learning goals.
• Experience analyzing student data and student work to inform instructional decisions.
• Experience developing high-quality teacher resources and student-facing instructional materials.
• Strong facilitation, communication, relationship-building, and feedback skills.
• Emotional intelligence and the ability to provide adults with clear, actionable instructional feedback.
• Strong commitment to equitable, culturally responsive, and academically rigorous mathematics instruction.
• Reliability, flexibility, integrity, and professionalism when working across multiple school contexts.
• A master’s degree is preferred.

Former NYC Public Schools educators are welcome to apply if they have been out of the system for at least one year.

Work location: In-person and virtual coaching with schools throughout the NYC area.
