Position type: Full time, Exempt, Academic Year Only
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. (unless otherwise specified)
Reports to: Director of Center of Excellence in Gifted Education
Position Summary:
Sycamore School seeks an experienced counselor for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. The role of the counselor is to intervene with students to support their social and emotional learning and mental health needs. The counselor will also collaborate with faculty, administrators, and parents to ensure clear communication and continuity of support.
Responsibilities:
- Student-related responsibilities
Implement and facilitate SEL (Social Emotional Learning) programming
Provide individual counseling
Facilitate small group counseling & skill building groups
Response to urgent crisis issues
Directly support students with high emotional needs
Respond and intervene to grade level requests
Observe in classrooms in response to concerns
Support 2e (twice-exceptional) students in coordination with Learning Resource Team - Faculty-related responsibilities
Participate on student support teams regarding behavioral, social, emotional, mental health, and achievement concerns
Attend faculty meetings and committees - Communication responsibilities
Document direct services with students
Communication with teachers and parents regarding behavioral, social, emotional, mental health, and achievement concerns as needed in accordance with confidentiality guidelines

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or mental health field
- Active license in above field preferred
- Experience with counseling students and implementing SEL programming
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- Experience working with gifted students preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
