The Education Outreach Director (EOD) is responsible for spearheading all of Seedleaf’s youth educational programming. This includes the Bluegrass Urban Farm Friends (BUFF) programming for middle and high school students in collaboration with Seedleaf’s community partners; K-12 classroom engagements in public and private school settings, and basic gardening workshops for adults. The EOD will also be in charge of coordinating Seedleaf’s ‘garden club time’ at local elementary schools and after-school programs. In addition to educational youth programming, the EOD will work with private and public school institutions in Fayette County to help develop and/or maintain school gardens.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Build relationships with K-12 school teachers and grounds staff in Fayette County.
Develop a working knowledge of after-school programs and community centers in Seedleaf’s service areas.
Work to recruit youth for BUFF programming.
Develop and carry out a curriculum for BUFF programming.
Develop weekly garden club/outdoor learning activities for local after-school programs and elementary schools.
Perform routine school garden maintenance in partnership with teachers and students in school gardens during the summer months.
Assist and provide skills to Fayette County Public School Teachers on garden maintenance and outdoor-based education.
Develop three garden-based remote learning activities per year, which will be housed on the Seedleaf website.
Work with Seedleaf staff members to structure field trips and craft educational materials related to urban agriculture, gardening, and responsible land stewardship.
Create marketing materials for Seedleaf’s educational programs to be shared on social media with school administrators.
In this role, the EOD may supervise a student intern who will assist with the delivery of K-12 educational programming.
