Desert Light Christian Academy is seeking an elementary teacher who loves the Lord, loves children, and is passionate about education. Our school has a distinct approach to education and discipleship, and we are looking for a teacher who is teachable, hardworking, flexible, and committed to our mission and vision.
The elementary teacher plays a vital role in the ministry and educational mission of Desert Light Christian Academy. Teachers partner with parents in the education and discipleship of their children, seeking to cultivate academic excellence, Christlike character, and a biblical worldview in every student.
We view teaching as more than a profession—it is a calling and an opportunity to minister to the whole child through instruction, training, discipline, encouragement, and personal example.
This is a contracted teaching position for the academic school year. At the conclusion of each school year, the contract may be renewed for an additional year based on the needs of the school, the teacher's performance, and continued alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Desert Light Christian Academy. Renewal is not automatic and is subject to administrative approval.
Primary Responsibilities
The elementary teacher is responsible for providing a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered classroom environment in which students can grow academically, spiritually, socially, and physically. Responsibilities include:
- Plan and provide developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the school's curriculum and educational philosophy.
- Integrate biblical principles and a biblical worldview throughout the curriculum and classroom experience.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment characterized by order, respect, encouragement, and Christlike conduct.
- Provide appropriate classroom management and discipline consistent with the school's policies and biblical approach to correction and restoration.
- Build meaningful relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Monitor and assess student progress and communicate academic and behavioral concerns appropriately.
- Provide appropriate support and encouragement to students with varying academic abilities and learning needs.
- Maintain accurate records, grades, lesson plans, and other required documentation.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress, needs, and accomplishments.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other activities that support the mission of the school.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to promote a unified school culture.
- Continually endeavor to develop and improve teaching skills.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the administration.
Requirements
Spiritual Requirements
The teacher should exhibit the following:
- Be a Christian believer and subscribe, without reservation, to the school’s Statement of Faith, Vision and Mission Statements, and Core Values.
- Demonstrate consistent outward evidence of an inward Christian character. (1 Tim. 4:12)
Maintain a regular and contributing involvement in a local Christ-centered church which believes in the authority of the Bible. (Hebrews 10:24-25) - Be convinced of the importance of prayer and a daily time of meditation in the Bible and actively pursue a relationship with God. (Psalm 42:1-2)
- Demonstrate spiritual maturity and a teachable spirit. (Titus 2:2-8)
- Have a workable knowledge of the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
- Possess qualities of Christian leadership as recorded in 1 Timothy 3:2-12; Titus 1:6-9; Matthew 20:26-27; and Mark 9:35.
Academic and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred.
- Arizona state teacher certification is not required.
- Previous teaching or educational experience is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary-aged children is highly desirable.
- Willingness to learn, grow, and adapt to the instructional approach and culture of Desert Light Christian Academy.
General Requirements
- Be supportive of the school’s purpose and policies.
- Be capable of picking up at least 15 lbs.
- Experience (vocational or volunteer) working with children preferred.
- Possession of a valid AZ IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
