Description
The Division of Musculoskeletal Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Florida is adding a faculty position to a seven-member section that practices musculoskeletal radiology exclusively. We are looking for a radiologist whose clinical work is excellent and who teaches because it matters to them. Our residents have repeatedly named this division their best rotation and its faculty their best teachers; we intend to keep that standard, and we are selective about who joins us.
The practice. The position is 100% musculoskeletal: MRI, CT, and radiography across sports, arthritis, oncologic, and postoperative imaging, with joint injections and image-guided bone biopsies. Spine CT/MR, spine interventions, and tumor ablation are handled by other services. Residents and fellows are on service with a teaching attending, and the day is structured so that teaching is part of the work rather than a tax on it: clinical volumes are set for an academic teaching practice, not a production model. The section is growing steadily, driven by MRI, and expects to keep adding faculty. This position is for growth, not backlog.
The schedule. Call is entirely musculoskeletal and taken from home; weekend coverage is compensated with days off. Faculty have optional work-from-home shifts each week. Time off is generous by academic standards and grows with service.
Compensation. Mayo's salary model is transparent and set by years of practice rather than by negotiation or production. Prior years of practice count in full and it is benchmarked periodically to the upper range of the national market. Total rewards include a defined-benefit pension in addition to retirement plan contributions and an annual supplemental retirement payment, comprehensive health, life, and disability coverage, a substantial annual allowance for books, travel, and professional development, and full relocation. Florida has no state income tax. We do not offer production bonuses or partnership tracks; what we offer is a stable, well-compensated academic practice designed around excellent clinical work and teaching.
The opportunity. We would welcome a colleague who wants to build something beyond being an excellent clinician and teacher; as examples: MRI protocol optimization for a growing practice, clinical leadership in AI evaluation through Mayo's enterprise radiology informatics program, or musculoskeletal imaging education for the Florida campus of the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. The division holds the department's residency and fellowship program directorships, and the paths to educational leadership are short and visible. Leadership roles have term limits such that applicants can expect opportunities for roles in MSK such as fellowship director and division chair, along with other departmental, hospital, and enterprise positions.
