Job Description:
McDaniel College Graduate and Professional Studies is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader who is energized by innovation in counselor education and inspired to shape the next generation of mental health and school counseling professionals. This is a 12-month open rank position.
This is an exciting opportunity to join McDaniel’s thriving Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs at a pivotal moment of the Graduate and Professional Studies division’s strategic growth. As we enter our next phase of program development, we are intentionally differentiating our programs through innovative delivery models, community-embedded partnerships, and a workforce-responsive curriculum, while expanding a distinctive portfolio of graduate health sciences offerings designed to meet critical regional and national needs.
The Counseling Program Director will provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership of our Master of Science in Counseling program while advancing excellence in teaching, supervision, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate will join an ambitious and forward-thinking Graduate and Professional Studies administrative and faculty team committed to quality programs that respond to critical workforce needs across our region and state.

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Administration:
Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all counseling programs, ensuring their continued growth and quality.
Lead efforts in seeking and maintaining CACREP accreditation as part of the next phase of our counseling program development, including the preparation of self-study documents and reports.
Oversee and lead program development, implementation, and assessment
Oversee and lead curriculum development
Collaborates with the Dean of GPS to recruit, supervise. evaluate and onboard new faculty.
Assign teaching responsibilities and schedules.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the counseling programs within the Graduate and Professional Studies Division and at the college level.
Facilitate communication and collaboration among counseling faculty, students, and staff.
Represent the counseling program to external stakeholders, including professional organizations, community partners, and accrediting bodies.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students and faculty.
Address student concerns and facilitate conflict resolution within the programs.
Teaching and Mentoring:
Maintain an active teaching load in core counseling areas at the graduate level as assigned.
Collaborate with admissions for all recruitment and admissions processes to include participation in recruiting activities.
In collaboration with the Clinical Site Coordinator, develop and maintain partnerships for field placement sites for practicum and internships.
Develop, deliver and lead an engaging and innovative curriculum that reflects current research and best practices in the field.
Provide effective academic advising and mentorship to graduate counseling students.
Scholarship:
Maintain an active and productive research agenda leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at national and regional conferences, and the potential for external funding in alignment with position and rank.
Contribute to the scholarly reputation of the department and college.
Engage in scholarship that informs and enhances counselor education and practice.
Service:
Serve on departmental and college committees aligned with expectations of position and rank.
Contribute to the counseling profession through active involvement in professional organizations.
Engage in community outreach and service activities relevant to the field of counseling.
Requirements
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counselor Education preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
Must hold a professional counselor license and/or be eligible for licensure as a professional counselor in Maryland.
A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service.
Demonstrated successful experience in program administration, leadership, and management within a counselor education setting.
Thorough knowledge of and commitment to CACREP accreditation standards and processes.
Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with online or hybrid course delivery.
Evidence of leadership in professional counseling organizations.
