Description
Colville School District is now accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Special Education English Language Arts Teacher at Colville Junior High School. This position is 180 days plus 4 additional days. The LSC program implements developmentally appropriate ELA practices in classrooms and delivers and designs effective specialized instruction that will improve the performance and success of special programs. The candidate will need to possess a valid Washington state teaching certificate with a special education endorsement and an academic background appropriate to the subject area or grade level. The candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a positive and collaborative member of the school staff to support the primary goals of Colville Junior High School, with a focus on planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students.
- Serve as a cooperative member of the building multidisciplinary team; be knowledgeable of the determination of eligibility and the development of instructional and behavioral goals that support students with behavioral, adaptive, social, sensory, developmental, basic life skills, and/or multiple/severe disabilities across a continuum of services specific to a self-contained setting.
- Develop and implement IEP goals using evaluation results and assessment data. Evaluate student progress using progress-monitoring strategies.
- Design and monitor specially designed instruction for students based on diagnostic data, showing the students abilities and achievement levels, developing written plans using district approved curriculum to accelerate students’ growth and close the achievement gap.
- Follow district policies, procedures, and administrative directives as they pertain to WAC 392-172A and P.L. 105-17.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) individually or as a team member to identify the function of the students’ behavior and to develop effective positive behavior supports and interventions (BIP). Collect and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of the intervention and modify when appropriate.
- Provide consultation and follow-up services to general education teachers, parents, other district personnel, and community agencies as needed and authorized to ensure the successful transition of students into a less restrictive environment.
- Effectively manage, instruct, and supervise the activities of instructional assistants, other staff, volunteers, and students working under your direction. Ensure they are trained and monitored on instructional programs, responsibilities, and intervention strategies, and their interaction with students in monitored weekly.
- Provide all instructional staff, support staff, administrators, and specialists with a daily/weekly schedule of staff assignments and student activities to ensure supervision for instructional and behavioral supports.
- Participate in weekly grade-level planning meetings and professional learning community (PLC) collaborations.
- Deliver effective instruction and assessment aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and the District Curriculum goals for Junior High grade levels.
- Develop both long- and short-range instructional plans for assigned subject areas.
- Address individual learning needs and differences of students.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of subject matter in classroom instruction.
- Foster a classroom climate built on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency.
- Exhibit proficiency in instructional skills.
- Inform students of their progress in relation to learning objectives set for the lessons or courses of study.
- Interact positively with students, colleagues, and school district patrons.
- Perform job-related, non-teaching duties as assigned.
- Supervise student teachers, teacher assistants, tutors, and volunteers when applicable.
- Manage student discipline and attendance issues effectively.
- Participate actively in staff development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required by the supervisor.

Salary & Benefits
This position is part of the Colville Education Association (CEA) Teacher's Bargaining Unit. Salary is in accordance with the Colville Education Association (CEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position includes a full comprehensive benefit package with medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, and long-term disability, as well as participation in Washington State's school retirement programs. - Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- Must have a valid Washington State teaching certificate with a special education endorsement as related to the specific assignment and must meet criteria congruent with Washington State Professional Educators Standards consistent with teaching certification and placement position. Multiple endorsements preferred.
- Teaching experience with students with disabilities in a self-contained setting preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan and implement effective programs for students with a wide range of disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to implement effective teaching methods and modify general education curriculum for student success.
- Knowledge and experience using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to work with parents and to clearly articulate school programs and the State of Washington Essential Academic Learning Requirements and their relationship to special education programs.
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to decision-making in collaboration with staff, administrators, and the parent community.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing staff development that promotes continuous inquiry and improvement embedded in the daily life of schools.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
- Favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprint background check is required.
