Site Reliability Engineer (Python-Focused) - Hedge Fund Technology

We are supporting a leading global hedge fund in building out a high-impact Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in Hong Kong. This team operates at the core of a mission-critical trading environment, applying advanced engineering practices to systems where performance, reliability, and speed directly drive business outcomes.

The Role
As an SRE, you will operate at the intersection of software engineering and production, working closely with developers and trading teams to design, build, and run highly reliable, scalable systems. This is a deeply technical, Python-heavy role you will be expected to engineer solutions at a level comparable to software developers, not just operate systems. You will contribute across the full lifecycle, from early-stage development through to production, with a strong focus on automation, performance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities

1. Own reliability, availability, and performance of critical trading systems
2. Write production-grade Python code for automation, tooling, and system enhancements
3. Partner with developers to bring new applications into production
4. Debug complex production issues and drive root cause resolution
5. Build and improve observability, monitoring, and alerting systems
6. Lead incident management and post-incident improvements
7. Design and evolve scalable, resilient infrastructure
8. Eliminate manual processes through engineering and automation
9. Champion SRE best practices across teams

What We're Looking For

1. Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems)
2. Advanced Python expertise close to software engineering level
3. Experience in high-performance, mission-critical environments
4. Strong grasp of modern development practices (CI/CD, testing, version control)
5. Solid Linux knowledge and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN)
6. Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and containerised systems
7. Proven ability to debug distributed systems in production
8. Experience with databases (SQL or similar)

Nice to Have

1. Experience with large-scale, highly available systems
2. Exposure to low-latency or trading environments
3. Familiarity with JavaScript/CSS or web interfaces

Compensation

1. Top-of-market hedge fund compensation structure
2. Target total compensation: HKD 4M-6M+
3. Flexibility to exceed this range for exceptional candidates
4. High base salary combined with significant, uncapped bonus potential
5. We are prepared to outperform competing offers for high-calibre engineers
