We are hiring for two key positions in construction: Senior Project Engineer, Civil and Senior Project Engineer, Structures. A single recruitment process will be used to source qualified candidates for both positions; candidates will have the opportunity to indicate their preference for one of the opportunities over the other, if applicable, during the application process.
Senior Project Engineer, Civil: In this role you will provide technical support and expertise to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of Green Line LRT civil works, including but not limited to, utility, grading, roadworks, traffic signals, streetlights, drainage, urban landscaping, business unit coordination, traffic management, interface management and other works.
Senior Project Engineer, Structures: In this role you will provide technical support and expertise to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of Green Line LRT structure works, including but not limited to, elevated guideways, bridges, river crossings, retaining walls and other structural works in addition to traffic and interface management.
Both roles ensure that designs are feasible, contract specifications are met during execution, and projects are completed on time and within budget while ensuring safety, environment and quality requirements are met. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will also support and collaborate with the designers, delivery partners, and internal team. Primary Duties include:
Assist the project team to ensure the project objectives, budget, schedule, and performance standards are achieved in compliance with City of Calgary policies, procedures, standards, and specifications, and third-party agreements.
Manage communication and coordination between the contractor, internal teams, and external partners including regulatory authorities
Coordinate the integration of Green Line support functions including Construction, Technical, Operations, Legal, and Public Affairs into the successful delivery of the project.
Lead and mentor team of engineers, support staff, and contractors. Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure deliverable completion and professional development.
Oversee construction activities, reviewing submittals and practices to ensure adherence to design requirements, safety standards, project management procedures, and environmental requirements.
Provide constructability and value management expertise, including technical review of designs, specifications, and construction methodologies. Act as construction expert in claims scenarios.
Manage interface coordination between contracts and oversee integration of project components and systems to ensure seamless functionality and quality.
Monitor project delivery including financial accountability, contract/change management, schedule adherence, and compliance with reference designs and performance specifications during all stages of the project.
Participate in submittal reviews to avoid cost or scope creep. Provide regular progress reports tracking cost and schedule variances. Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks and issues.
Develop and maintain technical risk registers and issue logs with mitigation measures and solution.
Participate and update the estimate-at-completion for the scope of works.
Prepare or participate in the preparation of briefing documents, memos, and presentations to support leadership team.
Requirements
Qualifications
A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
At least 5 years of relevant professional engineering experience managing the design and construction of LRT or infrastructure projects, obtained after receiving the Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
Current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Click here for more details.
Experience on LRT or major infrastructure projects in civil or structures scopes will be considered an asset.
Experience in risk and quality management, and a good understanding of project management processes and methodologies.
Strong understanding of contract administration, interface management, infrastructure integration, partner management and collaborative issue resolution in complex project environments.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with competing priorities with a reasonable and balanced problem-solving approach.
Strong communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Compensation: Level P4E $135,800 - 169,700 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
