Under the general direction of the Plant Manager, the post holder directs and supervises the day to day operations and staff, and oversees the planned maintenance program and plant repairs of the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility. They will have the responsibility of organizing and implementing staff training programs and regulating the contractors that have access to the facility for disposal and maintenance operations. The post holder will be accountable for the overall safety, environmental compliance and security of the plant and administers all operational contracts while informing the Plant Manager of production needs and outcomes through a report produced on a consistent basis. The Operations Engineer is professionally liable for the safe and effective operation of a $100 million steam power plant and the safety of fifty staff, all site occupants, contractors and its users on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
Applicants must hold Professional Designation in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or a First Class Engineering License. They also must have a minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience including five (5) years’ experience working in a high-pressure steam plant or power plant operation with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level. Experience in the management of a large, unionized workforce is also required.
