Position Information
Classification Title Life Science Technician FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor degree in related field. Experience in wet-chemical laboratory and instrumentation skills, and water, soil, and plant sampling.
Position Summary
This incumbent functions as a day-to-day manager of the lab, responsible for purchase requests, inventory, and ensuring compliance with all QA/QC and health and safety procedures. Guides laboratory technicians and graduate students while in the lab. Assists in the routine analysis of environmental samples, including assisting with the operation and maintenance of lab equipment (i.e.,ICP-MS,ICP-OES,XRD,XRF, etc.). Assists in the preparation of research manuscripts and reports for funding institutions. Experience with the handling and analysis of radionuclides. Additional job specific training will be provided as appropriate.

- Interpersonal, critical thinking and communication (written & verbal) skills, and general computer skills.
Limited work outside maintaining environmental monitoring equipment and water/soil sampling.

Routine chemical analysis of environmental samples, operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, GC-MS, XRD, UV-Vis spectrometer, ICP-MS, CHNS analyzer.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Lab management, taking inventory, purchasing, QA/QC and safety compliance.
