Job Summary
The Learning Technology Specialist role is a professional, team-centered, and collaborative position responsible for providing expertise, training, and support to the Department of Undergraduate Medical Education within Wake Forest School of Medicine. The Learning Technology Specialist provides training and support for technological platforms utilized by the various members of the department and students. This position requires an individual to work with a high-level of independence, have strong project management, communication and collaboration skills, a willingness to provide superior customer service, and a passion for creating and supporting innovative educational solutions for leaders, faculty and students.
The Learning Technology Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and managing technology systems, assisting with the development of resources, and basic technical support for the Department of Undergraduate Medical Education.
Essential Functions
1. Provides general technical support to medical students, house staff, program coordinators, and directors to enhance e-learning and assists with the implementation of teaching and learning solutions
2. Serves as a master user and support of select e-learning tools, such as Canvas, WakeTrack, One45, SharePoint, and Echo360 applications for students, faculty and staff.
3. Coordinates and acts as liaison with Wake Forest School of Medicine colleagues, supporting other educational e-products, such as web sites, educational applications, and learning management systems to support the academic core.
4. Evaluates new and existing products and generates ideas that maximize our use of e-Learning products to support a more efficient and effective learning system for students, residents, team members and faculty.
5. Develops and manages relationships with technology vendors to provide excellent service and support for faculty and students.
6. Conducts new student orientations to the computer lab as well as assist with student
Exams and any other student activities that require technological support.
7. Researches best practices and identifies potential applications for new and emerging instructional technologies to ensure educational integrity.
8. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and best practices.
Skills/Qualifications:
• Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills
• Good organization skills and ability to pay attention to details
• Proficient with office productivity software (Microsoft Office) and collaboration software (Microsoft SharePoint)
• Project management skills
• Experience with Learning Management Systems
• Ability to utilize multimedia technology and authoring tools
• Ability to work independently and provide supervision to junior level staff
• Customer service oriented
• Adept at rich media technologies
• Knowledge of the current literature, trends and developments in the field of instructional technology and the appropriate instructional uses in various subject areas
• Considerable knowledge of computer technology, multiple hardware platforms, network architecture and cabling techniques
• Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements
• Ability to evaluate the performance of hardware and software and make recommendations for improvement
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
Physical Requirements Works in a busy office environment. Frequent contact with various academic health professionals and students. Requires long periods of sitting, operating keyboard. Occasional lifting and walking on campus. Responsible to work in a safe manner. Occasional travel required.
Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT) or Instructional Technology with five years' experience analyzing business and performance needs and/or designing and developing learning and performance solutions; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with learning management systems and educational technologies preferred. Programing API experience preferred.
