The Chatwal Lodge is seeking a Chief Engineer to join the team at The Chatwal Lodge located Sullivan County, in the Lower Hudson Valley region of the Catskills Mountains. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational integrity of the hotel and its surrounding grounds. This role oversees both interior and exterior building systems and ensures the property is well-maintained, safe, and fully functional at all times.

The Chief Engineer must possess strong working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and septic systems, and be capable of performing basic repairs and preventive maintenance across these areas. This role also requires the ability to assess issues, troubleshoot problems, and determine when outside expertise is required. This role is required to respond to maintenance emergencies as needed.

In addition to hands-on maintenance, the Chief Engineer is responsible for managing and coordinating third-party vendors, including but not limited to plumbing and septic services, electrical contractors, landscaping and snow removal, and IT/service providers. This includes scheduling work, overseeing quality and timelines, and ensuring all work meets hotel standards and safety requirements.

The role requires experience operating utility and maintenance vehicles and equipment, including John Deere-style utility vehicles, tractors, and snow-plow attachments, particularly during winter operations and adverse weather conditions.

The Chief Engineer works closely with hotel leadership to support daily operations, capital projects, and long-term maintenance planning, ensuring minimal disruption to the guest experience.

This position is full-time and located on property at The Chatwal Lodge located in White Lake, NY. The salary range for this position is $70,600 - $75,000 and would be eligible for incentive compensation. Actual pay will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
• Must possess strong working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and septic systems
• Must be capable of performing basic repairs and preventive maintenance across these areas.
• Service oriented style with professional presentation, organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
• At least 4 years' experience in maintenance, preferably with a hotel
• Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational and proven leadership skills, proven track record in high volume property, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and associate relations, and ability to improve the bottom line
• Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English and maintain communications with corporate staff
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt Service Standards and Procedures
• Must have valid NYS Driver's License
