Description
Serves as the Chief Engineer onboard NYC Dept of Environmental Protection (DEP) fleet of Sludge tankers which operate in and around NYC Harbor. Vessels range between 290’-350’ and run with GE, Wartsila and CAT engines, 3653-5472 HP, running as day boats on a compressed schedule.
The Chief is responsible for supervising and directing the safe operation and maintenance of vessels that service wastewater resource recovery facilities for the Bureau of Wastewater treatment as part of the DEP which enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air, noise and hazardous materials pollution.

Requirements
A valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) issued by the United States Coast Guard with endorsement as a Chief Engineer Limited for Motor vessels, not less than 6000 H.P., or higher license.
A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days
A valid USCG medical certificate without restrictions
