Job Description
CASA invites applications for Teaching Assistants to work in our lively, creative Summer 2026 program.
Summer CASA meets four mornings a week for six weeks. 4 classrooms of approximately 20 students are taught by certified teachers, plus a recreation teacher focusing on outdoor recreation. Each teacher assistant will work closely with our teaching staff. The focus is educational success in all subjects, with a strong emphasis in reading and math. Unique student enrichment opportunities are included.
REQUIRED DATES AND HOURS:
- Mondays through Thursdays, June 15 through July 30 (Unpaid Holiday: June 29-July 2).
- Teaching Assistant hours are approximately 7:45am to 1:15pm daily
- Additional required hours are:
(1) Staff Orientation the week of June 8-11. Time: 9:00 am-3:00 pm.
TEACHING ASSISTANT SALARY: $13.73 per hour. 20 hours per week. 7 weeks (One week of training, 6 weeks of camp).
Summer Teaching Assistant responsibilities include: assisting the classroom teacher in all aspects of the program, assisting with student transportation by riding a Hope College bus during pickup and drop off routes, supervising student activities as assigned. Assistants are expected to work the entire duration of the summer program.
Qualifications
Demonstrated successful experience working with ethnically and economically diverse populations of elementary students, strong relational skills and leadership qualities. The ability to communicate in Spanish is highly preferred.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves lifting over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities with students. In the case of temporary or permanent condition(s) that require(s) accommodation(s), reasonable accommodation(s) may be requested.
