- Doctoral degree in instructional technology, educational technology, information technology, or a related discipline. Degrees in other fields may be considered if they align with one of the College of Education's departmental specializations.
Position Summary
The Mary Frances Early College of Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Academic Professional in Instructional Technology, beginning in 2026. This position will be housed within one of the college's nine academic departments and will serve as a bridge between faculty, staff, and IT professionals. The Academic Professional will ensure that instructional technologies are strategically integrated across face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments.
The Academic Professional will advance the college's mission by promoting innovative teaching practices, enhancing high-quality learning experiences, and supporting research excellence through effective and purposeful use of technology.
The role provides strategic leadership in evaluating, adopting, and maintaining learning platforms, digital applications, and classroom technologies. By leveraging these tools, the position supports faculty in enhancing student engagement, improving learning outcomes, and expanding access to high-quality resources.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with faculty, department leaders, and IT colleagues to assess instructional needs and provide expert guidance on technology-enhanced teaching strategies, instructional design, course delivery, and assessment methods-serving as an advisor on best practices for integrating digital tools into curriculum design, research dissemination, and student-centered learning.
- Design and deliver comprehensive professional development programs-including workshops, hands-on training, faculty learning communities, and personalized coaching-to support technology integration at all skill levels, maintaining a consistent schedule aligned with teaching calendars and institutional priorities.
- Provide strategic and operational support for instructional environments by ensuring reliable classroom and online technology, managing learning platforms, collaborating with IT for troubleshooting and upgrades, and recommending optimal configurations to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Guide faculty and staff in selecting and effectively using educational applications, collaboration platforms, multimedia tools, and research software by providing technical and
pedagogical support, while proactively monitoring software updates and communicating changes to optimize learning and research outcomes. - Research, pilot, and evaluate emerging technologies-including AI-supported applications, VR/AR tools, and advanced media platforms-by developing usability and pedagogical frameworks, providing evidence-based recommendations for adoption and scalability, and promoting responsible, ethical use aligned with academic integrity, accessibility, and data privacy standards.
- Develop and maintain instructional resources and online hubs; lead and participate in technology-enhanced teaching initiatives and strategic planning; and use data-driven assessment to
refine services, align with accreditation standards, and advance institutional goals.
- Eligibility for a faculty appointment as an Academic Professional within one of the College of Education's academic departments, with expectations for contributions to teaching, scholarship, and service.
- At least 2 years of experience supporting instructional technologies in higher education or a comparable academic/professional setting.
- Proficiency with a broad range of educational software, productivity tools, and research applications; expertise in learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, or D2L.
- Familiarity with classroom and instructional technologies including interactive displays, wireless presentation systems, lecture capture, video conferencing, and digital collaboration platforms.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with proven ability to engage faculty, staff, and students in adopting new technologies.
- Demonstrated capacity to evaluate, explain, and train others in the responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI-supported tools.
- At least 2 years of experience designing professional development programs and creating accessible instructional resources, such as documentation, tutorials, or multimedia materials.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to promoting accessibility, inclusivity, and equity in the use of instructional technology.
- Prior higher education teaching experience of at least two years at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- At least 2 years of experience with instructional design models and learning theory in technology-rich environments.
- At least 2 years of experience leading faculty development programs or communities of practice.
- At least 2 years of experience writing or managing grants related to instructional technology or digital learning initiatives.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, such as publications, conference presentations, or grant-funded projects.
- Demonstrated success in cross-departmental or interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and assessment of learning outcomes.
